The Good Wife . . . to be or not
The Good Wife . . . to be or not
The Good Wife TV show came out in 2009. It stars Julianna Margolies, Archie Panjabi, and Christine Baranski– just to name the ones I like the best.
I watched it faithfully the first few years and would probably be watching it now, except we’ve found Amazon Prime and Netflix. You’ve probably been watching TV on demand for years. Complete seasons, sitting right in front of you, with no waiting around for some night next week to see a new episode of your ‘show.’
Awesome. We watched the entire season of House of Cards in three days. I rewatched the first season of Downton Abbey. Much better than this latest season.
But, back to The Good Wife. This came out a year after poor old Eliot Spitzer got his toe in a crack politically. Or something in a crack . . . er, not so politically. There’s just so much material out there for them to work with– John Edwards, Bill Clinton, even the Weiner guy. One of the producers is Ridley Scott– of Blade Runner, Gladiator, and Thelma and Louise fame. So, I knew this should be good. And it is.
The show follows Julianna Margolies, as the wife of a disgraced politician, who must create a new life and, after years as a stay-at-home mom, find work to support her children. It’s witty, intriguing, and has numerous story lines that either make you laugh or shock you. But, the whole time I watched the first season, I kept thinking, ‘What is she thinking? Why is she standing up there, the dutiful, loving, supportive wife, as her husband announces to the world what a d*@$# bag he is?”
We all do what we have to do. She’s portrayed as the ‘good wife’ . . . whatever that means. I was born in March, 1955 and, please, don’t tell me they really thought like this:
And now we know.
So, not!
The man of today would never admit to such thoughts.
Love,
(Only in their dreams.)
